Recently lost to cancer in 1997, Tenor Saxophonist and Louisiana native Vince Williams is best known for his collaborations with Buckwheat Zydeco. With a forceful tenor sound that brings to mind L.J. Reynolds or David Ruffin, Williams contributed to Buckwheat´s propulsive party music with strains of rock and R&B, helping to add an uncommon flair to traditional zydeco and appearing on the 1997 recording Trouble. Williams was also a member of the soulful and infectious Memphis-based Kwick, with whom he recorded two albums for IME/America. Before his death, Williams was in the studio with his ³Afrazz² (a fusion of Haitian, Latin and African influences) band, Company of One. An accomplished actor as well as musician, Williams appeared on the soap opera Guiding Light and Another World and performed on Broadway opposite Billy Dee William sand James Earl Jones in Fences. |
