Artist Biography: Tenor Saxophonist Ted Brown (b. 12/1/27 Rochester, NY) has enjoyed a long career since studying music with his father, a band-leading violinist, tenor man, and banjo-player. Brown played in army bands for a couple of years before moving to New York in ´48, where he began his association with Lennie Tristano and his disciples. Throughout the ´50s, Brown played with such Tristano alumni as Lee Konitz (´55), Ronnie Ball (´56), and Warne marsh (´56). After moving to Lawrence, Massachusetts, he played less frequently, opting to begin a career in the computer field. Continuing to work outside of music, Brown nonetheless returned to New York with Konitz in ´76, leading his own quartet a year later and working extensively in clubs. He has since worked with Hod O´Brian (´87), Konitz again (´88), and Jack van Poll (´92), meanwhile leading his own dates for Criss Cross.
