Artist Name: Richard Tabnik
Artist Biography: Alto saxophonist Richard Tabnik has been living in New York City since 1979. Between ´75 and ´79, he lived in Buffalo where he appeared on radio, television, and in concert with his own groups. He played lead alto in Frank Foster´s Big Band, was a featured soloist at the historic Colored Musicians Club, and worked with a federally-funded (CETA) Buffalo Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Allen Tinney. Prior to his tenure in Buffalo, Richard wrote for and performed in various contexts in Houston, Atlanta, and Providence, where he had his first jazz gigs under the tutelage of guitarist Tom Brown; from ´70-´72 he studied on alto with Lee Konitz. Richard leads his own trio and quartet and is a member of the newly formed CCQt, led by Connie Cruthers, with whom he has been studying, performing, and recording since 1980. Richard can be heard in solo, duo, trio, and quartet contexts on his albums on New Artists Records.
