Artist Name: Ned Otter
Artist Biography: Ned Otter (b. 5/29/59, Huntington, NY) began to play alto saxophone after being inspired by his brother and continued his studies at the High School of Performing Arts (´74-´77). After graduating and switching to tenor, Otter apprenticed with a number of renowned musicians, including George Coleman (´77(), Red Rodney (´70), and the big band of Clark Terry (´81) and Dizzy Gillespie (´88). Otter worked as a piano tuner from ´81-´88 and presently programs computers. With his impressive jazz credentials, Otter did a series of concerts at the Stella Adler Theater in the late ´90s. Although he performs infrequently, Otter remains in strong form, with a tone influenced by Sonny Rollins and his mentor, George Coleman; he can be heard as a leader on the album The Right to Know (No 1 1990).
