Born in West Virginia and raised in Stamford, Connecticut, Smooth-toned soprano saxophonist Marion Meadows began playing clarinet and studying classical music at age eight. Moving to the saxophone as a teenager, Meadows majored in composition and arranging at Berklee College of Music, where he perfected his craft outside of school as a sideman, playing with Joe Henderson, Dave Liebman, and Eddie Daniels. Meadows later worked as a member of Norman Connorsī Starship Orchestra, but he is known primarily for his recordings as a leader; his series of six albums for RCA and Discovery have established him as one of the more popular and dynamic smooth jazz artists of the /90s. Currently operating out of Phoenix, Meadows now spins his lyrical phrases with a Southwestern vibe and can be heard on his latest recording, 1999īs Another Side of Midnight (Discovery). |
