Vincent Herring Picture
Artist Name: Vincent Herring
Artist Biography: Born November 19, 1964 in Hopkinsville, KY and raised in California, Vincent Herring moved to New York City where he played solo in the streets, in 1983. Herring quickly drew the attention of listeners and garnered invaluable apprenticeships with Lionel Hampton (´85-´88), David Murray (´85-´86), Horace Silver (´87), and Art Blakey (´89). Since 1989 he has performed frequently with Nat Adderley; it is only fitting that Herring came to prominence with the brother of his idol and chief influence, Cannonball Adderley. After gaining accolades for his soulful, incisive playing, he toured with Phil Woods and Antonio Hart in Alto Summit 1997. Herring leads his own quintet with which he has recorded regularly for Music Masters and Landmark.
