Dale Barlow |
| Artist Biography: |
Australian born Dale Barlow studied piano, flute and clarinet before switching to tenor saxophone at New South Wales Conservatorium. In 1982 Barlow moved to New York City after emerging as one of the ³young lions² of the Sydney jazz scene. Upon arrival he worked with such jazz luminaries as Cedar Walton, Chet Baker, and Sonny Rollins while gigging with various pop artists. In 1988 he showcased his abilities as a composer and arranger while leading a ten-piece band comprised of Australian jazz musicians across the United States. Since then, Barlow has toured and recorded frequently as a leader (check out his ´96 album Playground on ABC Jazz), but he is always in demand as a sideman, too; his extensive training finds him equally fluid in both classical and jazz contexts. |
