Artist Biography: New York-born and proud to be, Danny Aiello´s head shots grace the walls of nearly every diner and pizza-joint in this town; no surprise then that he prefers the true sound of the city(jazz(and has dropped by Roberto´s shop as well. An Italian-American actor with a beefy-physique, no-nonsense expressions and intimidating presence, Aiello came to acting late in life (making his screen debut in the 1973 film Bang the Drum Slowly), but quickly became one of Hollywood´s more prolific character actors. His performance as Cher´s fiancée in Moonstruck (1987) earned him serious critical attention; two years later he received a Best Supporting Actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal of a pizza-parlor owner immersed in the mounting racial conflict of Spike Lee´s Do The Right Thing. In attention to his screen work, Aiello has appeared frequently on Broadway, where he can showcase his singing skills; in 1976 he won a Theater World Award for his debut in Lamppost Reunion.
