Throughout the course of his career, Bobby Keys has earned his reputation as rock musicīs most reliable and inspired session saxophonists. He began playing in local bands at the encouragement of his teenage neighbor, Buddy Holly. His first road tour was with fellow Texan, Buddy Knox; around the same time he did numerous Dick Clark tours as a backing musician for the stage band. In 1966 he headed to California, where he worked in the resident band for the TV show Shindig, eventually hooking up with Joe Cocker to do the Joe Cocker Mad Dogs and Englishman album, tour, and movie. Leaving California, Keys settled in England, where he joined the Rolling Stones, appearing on many of their albums including Exile on Main Street (1972) and touring most of the world with them. Furthermore, he had the opportunity to work with notable English musicians like John Lennon, Eric Clapton, Pete Townsend, and Rod Stewart. Since those landmark years he has toured again with Cocker as well as the Stones, with whom he currently plays. |
