Brooklyn raised soprano and tenor saxophonist Bob Berg (b. 4/7/51) studied at the High School of Performing Arts and Julliard. Originally interested in free jazz, Berg emerged as a more hard bop-oriented stylist, with a sound influenced by Wayne Shorter. In 1969, Berg had his first professional gig, a tour with Jack McDuff. He later worked with Horace Silver (´73-´76) and Cedar Walton (´77-´83), before joining Miles Davis´ electric group, appearing on the trumpeter´s 1985 album, You´re Under Arrest. The U.S. state department recruited Berg for a tour of the Caribbean and Central America in 1992. He has recorded as a leader for Zanadu, Red, Denon, and Stretch; his most recent recording, with the prestigious Jazz Times Superband finds him playing alongside Randy Brecker and Larry Goldings. |
