Tenor saxophonist ³Big Nick² Nicholas developed his celebrated stentorian vocal style during a series of Harlem jam sessions in 1950-51 at the Paradise Club. Louis ³Pops² Armstrong, virtuoso trumpeter and improvisational innovator, popularized ³scat² singing with his 1927 recording of ³Heebie Jeebies,² a showcase for his trademark gravelly voice. While there are no existent recordings of Big Nick and Pops performing together, both musicians established a strong legacy individually.
